Joining LKB as a graduate
Last month, I joined The LKB Agency as a full-time Project Coordinator. I am currently in my final semester of a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) at the University of Wollongong. I previously worked part-time for a NDIS provider, Hireup, in a variety of roles, including Communications, Public Affairs and Marketing. I have always been fascinated by the world of Government and Communications, whilst also being a self-confessed “transport nerd”. When I saw the opportunity to align my interests, I immediately jumped at it! Transitioning from university and part-time work into this role has been seamless and I am finding the team incredibly supportive of my personal and professional development.
Given this was my first full time position, I was nervous when making this transition about whether I would have enough steam on day five to keep going strong! I have found that working on multiple projects simultaneously has kept my interest and energy, as no day feels the same. The flexibility that LKB offers has allowed me to pursue my goal of full-time employment whilst also finishing my remaining subjects at university. During the week, I can work longer hours on our in-office days where I can maximise learning from the team. This allows me to take a longer lunch break on Fridays to attend an online class, meaning I can stay up to date with my studies whilst still providing the best possible service for our clients. Lucy Beytagh, our Founder and Managing Director, made it clear when I interviewed that the team “work hard but have fun”. This proved true when within my first three days, I was heading out to dinner to celebrate not one, but two weddings! Participating in team activities so early in my role meant I felt like part of the family from the get-go.
There is a great sense of satisfaction in being able to support the whole team to deliver multiple projects. Lucy has been instrumental in showing me where my work contributes to the bigger picture. Having come from a for-purpose organisation, I knew that my next career challenge needed to be one where I was developing positive and purposeful communication that make a difference. Since joining LKB, I have been supporting on two large-scale behaviour change campaigns. This aligns with my values and has given me a sense of satisfaction when I think about the people we are impacting with our work.
My three highlights about joining LKB are:
1. Creating positive and purposeful campaigns.
2. The variety of work, no two days are the same!
3. The flexibility and emphasis on supporting my professional development.
