9391 kilometres of community engagement, and what we’ve learnt

Over the last few months, the LKB team has been busy travelling to many diverse communities across the country to engage on behalf of a number of different clients and topics, including important health awareness information and education on the renewable energy transition. The LKB team has welcomed the 9391 kilometres of travel and the opportunity to see many different towns within Australia, but most importantly we have enjoyed engaging with people from so many different types of communities throughout regional and metropolitan areas of New South Wales, the ACT, Queensland and even the Northern Territory. We really are a large and diverse country.

Because of the diversity of the communities and locations we’ve visited, it was quite a task to figure out the best locations to optimise engagement with our target audience within each town. However, we quickly realised the best approach was to work with local councils and tap into their local knowledge.

These councils have helped us find the best locations, passed on helpful contacts, advised where the high foot locations are depending on the different audiences we needed to engage with, and also went above and beyond by helping to promote our engagement activities. This has worked so well for us, and engaging with councils has been so critical to the success of our community engagement.

But it doesn’t end there. We would also like to thank the people we have engaged with for their openness and willingness to be engaged. As we have travelled the length and breadth of Australia, no matter where you are, the success of your engagement always comes down to where and how you engage with people. We found most people are willing to talk to you if you are friendly, honest and have open and welcoming body language. And for that we were rewarded with warm and deep conversations. We were also met with so much humour, and classic Australian one liners, I wish I could share them all but unfortunately this is not the platform for it!
