The complex challenge
How do you engage over 150 community groups and a highly diverse population in the largest NSW council to ensure a new Community Facilities Policy is equitable and tailored to community needs?
The solution
The LKB Agency crafted a tailored, two phase community engagement strategy designed to address the diverse needs of the local community.
In phase one, we created a multilingual, visually driven quantitative survey to gather feedback on the policy’s guiding principles. We also held one on one meetings with key community organisations to identify concerns and gather suggestions. These insights were integrated into a co-design workshop with stakeholders to fine-tune the engagement approach. To further deepen community input, we facilitated seven World Café style workshops, supported by visual and translated materials, ensuring inclusive, meaningful conversations across diverse groups.
In phase two, we designed a strategic approach for information sessions to ensure clear communication of the draft policy and demonstrate how feedback from the first phase was incorporated. We conducted four information sessions and actively encouraged participants to provide formal feedback via Council’s ‘Have Your Say’ platform.
